Weekly Wrap Up: From Colds, Ear Infections To Good Health.

The kids are making a recovery from having very bad colds, Ken had an ear infection. As of today they are BACK, feeling like their regular selves again:) In our homeschooling week the kids did quite a bit considering their health, take a look.
                                                      Mathematics
Reviewing telling time a quarter past using three part cards.
They loved the Geometry Command Cards. The picture above is of The Lorax:)
Using beads to solve multiplication story problems.
Lots of work with fractions.

Language
They have been reading a lot and have been very happy with their new reading selections. DJ is reading Holes by Louis Sachar. This week he has worked on learning about settings, themes, making inferences, quote analysis, and flashbacks. Ken is reading Meet Cecile an American Girl series book. The following photos show their independent work that they chose this week as it relates to language.
Diagramming sentences.
Learning new French words and phrases inspired by her reading book.
Logical adverbs.
DJ also learned how to find the year a book was published and what are the names of some publishing companies. He wanted to make a timeline of the Dr.Seuss books we had on the shelf.

Ken read an autobiography of Dr. Seuss and is proud this she knows his real name. She also made a sketch of him and recorded information about him as well.
Together we read The Lorax, and then the planted some tomatoe seeds.

Cultural/Geography
They were also shown how to do a streak test with rocks.
They were really excited when the were able to identify minerals this way.
DJ is making an exhibit of his dinosaur work, the photo above shows the beginings.
He aslo completed his dinosaur timeline.
They finished their school week working with North America and Africa pin maps.
