Montessori Monday:Week Of November 7,2011

Last week was another good week, I can't remember much of what we did. By the way I realized that I do like blogging, but I don't like writing long post at all. So starting tomorrow I will be documenting our learning on a daily basis.  I will continue to link up on Montessori Monday because I Love This linky so much. I always find new ideas and benefit a lot from all the postings that link up there. I type this part of the post always before loading up the pictures, so onto the pictures of what I have to share. Maybe this will jog my memory a bit!!

Using the Golden Bead Material to solve multiplication equations.

Working with the Six Kingdoms Three Part Cards with Chart.

                                                                    Sorting prefixes

Matching sentences to pictures, the words were written in cursive writing.

Creating the map of The Trail of Tears this is a journey that the Native Americans had to take while being removed from their land. This led to a great discussion and comparison to how Africans were taking from their land and had to journey on the Slave ship. Our unit on Native Americans has been fascinating! We also created pictographs, and gave each other Indian names according to their meaning.

Animals from around the world. DJ is coloring the animals and when finished he will glue them to a blackline master onto the appropiate continent.

Sensorially working with the Algebraic Trinomial Cube.

They also reconstructed a model of the eye, completed a flow chart of the function of the ear, and did this cut and paste activity to learn the organs found in our digestive system.

Sewing played a major role in our homeschool this week. The picture below shows DJ in the process of sewing a snake, and Ken is sewing turkey puppets for storytime with the preschoolers.

The snake DJ completed, he took this picture to show how it was camouflaged.

I know I also presented the second presentation to Ken with Sentence Anlaysis, and she enjoyed this work a lot, and repeated the work several times and took it to another level. We always read daily our chapter books, and the kids continue to ace their weekly spelling words. Ken and DJ learned how to swim this week!!  All of the kids are practing their TaeKwonDo exercises preparing for their first tournament next Saturday. Their main interest this week was doing geography activities, language works, and sewing. Most importantly we are enjoying learning, and especially at home!! I have added new work on the shelves. I will be blogging about these activities this week, so stay tuned. 1. I would love to see you blog daily for a selfish reason - many times I wonder about what your kids are doing like...

    What book(s) are you using?
    What's a trinomial cube for?
Do you ever use any free printables that we could use?
Did the game/activity work, or did you have to revise it to teach the concept?

You do so many fun things in school I'm amazed. I wish I would have heard about Montessori school when I started years ago.

    Loved the camo snake!

  3. It's amazing how busy it seems your children are when you describe all that they do, and yet how slow and easy they appear to take things when I look at the photos. They truly do seem to enjoy and fully experience everything they set their hands to. Thanks for sharing!

  4. I'm so glad you're planning to continue linking up with Montessori Monday! Your homeschool is such an inspiration for homeschoolers interested in elementary Montessori activities. And I love the way your children help the preschoolers as well! :) Deb @ LivingMontessoriNow.com

  5. Creating a map of the Trail of Tears is a great activity for a Native American Unit Study. I featured that photo and two of your posts about Native Americans in my Montessori-Inspired Native American Unit at http://livingmontessorinow.com/2013/10/14/montessori-monday-montessori-inspired-native-american-unit/
