I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist: A Schoolhouse Crew Review

The title just grabs your attention doesn't it?  Well when it arrived at my home it got my undivided attention real fast. I had a lot of questions! What is this book talking about? What is the message(s) that the authors are trying to send? This book is Apologia Educational Ministries new product.

The book I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist  is written by Norman L. Geisler and Frank Turek and the Foreword is written by David Limbaugh. Truly these writers make a great team, they managed to answer Michelles' question to How do we know God exist? without her really knowing it. They did this by promoting skepticism, something I happen to value and instill in my children.

The Foreword is written in a way to help you understand what to expect from the book. I admired David Limbaugh's way of personally relating to the book and applying biblical scriptures. The information I gained from this portion of the book let me know that Yes for sure this is a book that I would want to read with Michelle(14).

The book first explains the Three Major Religious Worldviews. This introduction of the concepts pulled my daughter interest in reading this book immediately.

While reading we couldn't help but stop to check to see if we were understanding what we were reading. Not because the comprehension level was too high, but because it was just brilliant how everything was coming together. For example when Norman was attending Rochester University he enrolled in a religion class, to see if the professor could help him find the answer if God exist. Through out the lectures the Professor in a round about way tries to prove that God does not exist but isn't straight forward at all on his beliefs. At the end of the semester Norman finally ask the Professor if God exist and he got an answer that he didn't expect to get. The Professor said" I don't know if God exist".

In chapter one Can We Handle the Truth? Frank helps us to learn "the truths about truth" he uses cartoon characters to help you relate to the concepts he is presenting. The Road Runner Tactic as described by Norman is life changing. It helps you identify self defeating statements. I could picture Frank trying to get through on the phone to the radio host Jerry to respond to a callers response.

This book is good and I left you hanging on the last paragraph because I want you to go and purchase the book for yourself and for the young adults in your life. I would love to be a part of a book club/study reading this book.

I also was lucky enough to receive a copy of the workbook that goes along with the book.

The workbook is the icing on the cake. There are short biographies of famous skeptics from CARL SAGAN to NICODEMUS & THE PHARISEES. What Michelle enjoyed most about the workbook was it got her to think. It made her want to reread parts of the book. What I liked about the work she did in the workbook was it was leading her to finding the answer to her question Is there a God? and enable her to defend her beliefs. Oh my she was giving testimonies with her proof for why there is a God?!! You are given a password inside the cover of the workbook to the answer key, this is great for allowing your young adult to check the work themselves.

This curriculum material has definitely made it in Michelles' line up for studies this Fall.
Every since we started reading this book Michelle doesn't mind sharing with anyone who will listen why She Doesn't Have Enough Faith To Be an Atheist.

The cost of the book is $16.00. The cost of the workbook is $33.00. You can purchase them both here and also read a sample of the book here.

As a member of the Schoolhouse Review Crew I was given a copy of the book I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist and the companion workbook in exchange for an honest review. All the opinions I expressed are entirely my own.
