The easel I purchased for $6.00 at Hobby Lobby and the chalkboard was $7.00 brought at Hobby Lobby too. I brought these items so that the kids could have a place to properly to do Form Drawing. It is lightweight and compact in other words it is small enough that I didn't have to change the classrooms around just to add a chalkboard into the mix.
These drawing are of the Double- pointed mirror form**Butterfly. The top one is mine, the bottom one is DJ's. This is considered a Form Drawing taught in First Grade. It was our first try and let me tell you it ain't easy.
This one is Sequential/transformational form **Sharp mountain peaks and valleys/ smooth , rounded hills and valleys.

That is really wonderful to see you doing Form Drawing with your kids! How did you decide to start teaching this? (Since it is now usually a part of the Montessori curriculum.)

DeleteWhile researching educational philosophies I found this is the one of the things that would draw me to Waldorf. It is very important to me that my kids have a great exposure to the arts. I think Form Drawing brings out a deep concentration, with a great emphasis on creativity. Another thing I hope that they will gain from learning this is the connections to mathematics that is found in the work.
DeleteStorytelling is another component. I remember one of my favorite teachers drawing pictures on the board while telling a story. My kids loved this part the most during our Form Drawing time. We are definitely learning this together!
