Learning Divisibility Rules With The Golden Bead Material

I love days like today!  Specifically what I loved about today was the light bulb moment Ken had today while learning the divisibility rule of 2. If you have been reading this blog long enough then you may know that Ken has a love/hate relationship with Long Division. When she was first introduced to it she loved it! The more presentations she was given using this work the more she hated it.

Unfortunately when you pick from various free Montessori albums online not so good things can happen. Let's just say introducing Divisibility Rules would of helped her a lot before the Long Division Rack and Tubes. I am just sharing our experience here following this child.

First let me share something I HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH THE GOLDEN BEAD MATERIAL!!
The presentation I used was fairly simple. All you need is prepared cards, two skittles from the Stamp Game and The Golden Bead Material.

Once I presented to Ken how to do this work she was busy.......

                                                               Counting

                                                                  Dividing
Discovering the rule all on her own.

After the rule was discovered Ken asked me if I had any more numbers that she could divide.  Oh Yes! Let's find the divisibility rule for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, etc. Ken actually giggled with excitement and was ready to Rock n' Roll. Ken worked on finding the rules of divisibility for the entire work period.

When I was able to reflect on this successful lesson I remembered that Ken responded similarly when she used the Golden Bead Materials to find percentages. This may very well be her favorite material too.
